Common Conditions We Treat

Every patient is unique. Below are some of the most common spine, disc, and nerve-related conditions we evaluate and treat at Desert Hot Springs Chiropractic.

Sciatica

Overview

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes irritated or compressed, often due to a disc injury or narrowing around the spinal nerves. Symptoms typically affect one side of the body and may extend from the lower back into the buttock and leg.

You May Experience

  • Pain radiating into the buttock or leg

  • Numbness or tingling

  • Muscle weakness

  • Pain that worsens with prolonge sitting or standing

Disc Bulges & Herniations

Overview

A disc bulge or herniation occurs when one of the spinal discs begins to protrude or when the inner disc material pushes through the outer layer. Depending on its location, the disc may place pressure on nearby nerves, leading to pain, numbness, or weakness that can affect the neck, back, arms, or legs.

You May Experience

  • Neck or back pain

  • Pain radiating into an arm or leg

  • Numbness or tingling

  • Muscle weakness

Degenerative Disc Disease

Overview

Degenerative disc disease is a gradual breakdown of the spinal discs that can occur with aging, previous injuries, or everyday wear and tear. As the discs lose height and flexibility, they may contribute to chronic neck or back pain, stiffness, and reduced spinal mobility.

You May Experience

  • Chronic neck or back pain

  • Morning stiffness

  • Pain with prolonged sitting or standing

  • Decreased flexibility or range of motion

Spinal Stenosis

Overview

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spaces within the spine that can place pressure on the spinal cord or nearby nerves. It most commonly develops gradually over time and may contribute to pain, numbness, weakness, or difficulty walking or standing for extended periods.

You May Experience

  • Pain in the neck, back, buttocks, or legs

  • Numbness or tingling

  • Leg weakness or heaviness

  • Symptoms that worsen with prolonged standing or walking

Neck Pain

Overview

Neck pain can result from muscle strain, joint dysfunction, disc injuries, arthritis, or inflammation of the cervical spine. Symptoms may develop gradually or after an injury and can interfere with daily activities, work, sleep, and overall quality of life.

You May Experience

  • Neck stiffness or reduced range of motion

  • Pain that radiates into the shoulders or arms

  • Headaches originating from the neck

  • Numbness or tingling in the arms or hands

Radiculopathy

Overview

Radiculopathy occurs when a spinal nerve root becomes compressed, often as a result of a disc injury or narrowing of the spine. Depending on the affected nerve, symptoms may travel into the arms or legs and can interfere with strength, sensation, and everyday movement.

You May Experience

  • Pain radiating into an arm or leg

  • Numbness or tingling

  • Muscle weakness

  • Burning or electric-like nerve pain
